Mindful Movement

One of the simplest ways to understand yoga is that it’s the linking of breathe with movement. When we think about it in this way, it opens up the opportunity to bring principles of yoga more into our daily lives — noticing your breath as you walk your kids to school, linking your inhales and exhales with each turn of your steering wheel as you drive to work, or simply reminding yourself to breathe deep in times of stress and anxiety. Breathwork truly is one of the most important and effective tools that we can tap into. When we’re breathing, we’re alive. And when we can breathe deep — both the taking in and the releasing process — our body is reminded that it’s safe. What a gift.

In the Mindful Movement sequences that are taught at Juniper Crossing, the postures that are cued either in an individual or group setting are meant to make these things accessible to the client:

  1. The experience of both environmental and personal safety.

  2. Internal body/mind awareness and opportunities for self-connection.

  3. Awareness of self in connection with others.

  4. Opportunity to create a moving mindful meditation.

Kayli Cross is the provider at Juniper Crossing who currently facilitates all Mindful Movement sessions. This type of yoga is considered therapeutic in that Kayli incorporates sequencing, anatomy, and body movement as well as uses a trauma-informed approach, gathers a thorough pertinent history on each client prior to their participation, and weaves in themes that may parallel the client’s experience on their mat to the mental, emotional, and relational processes they may be navigating in their lives.

Clients’ participation in Mindful Movement is kept confidential and can be used in conjunction with therapy work either being done with a Juniper Crossing therapist or with an outside mental health provider. Coordination of care with a client’s therapist is available upon request.

Currently, groups are available to adults only but we hope to soon expand to teen groups as well!

If you’re interested in registering for a Mindful Movement group or in individual sessions, please contact Kayli directly @ 719.249.5195 or kayli@junipercrossing.com.
